Core Beliefs of Peace Lutheran Church
1. We believe the miracle of life reveals itself to be the creation of a Divine Creator.
2. We believe the Creator is one God revealed in three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit.
3. We believe Jesus is God’s Word become human, the image of the invisible God, God’s Heart in human form, the fulfillment of all God’s promises and all human hopes.
4. We believe God loved us in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ Jesus, justifying us and making us eternally valuable and worthy of eternal life in Christ Jesus.
5. We believe the Holy Spirit is God’s personified love poured into human hearts working through God’s Word as the source of faith, hope, and love.
6. We believe we are born sinners turned in on ourselves and away from God, falling far short of God’s glorious goal for humanity.
7. We believe the gospel is the good news of Christ Jesus’ victory over sin and death and that Christians are Christ followers who are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
8. We believe faith is not feelings or opinions but rather the gift of a relationship of trust in Christ that is created by God’s Word and that shapes who we are and who we are becoming.
9. We believe Christians are both saints and sinners at the same time, both captivated by sin and breaking free from the power of sin, daily putting off the old life through confession and taking up the new life through the gifts of forgiveness and repentance.
10. We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority in faith and life, meaning that Scripture says exactly what God wants it to say to lead us through both Law and Gospel to faith and obedience in Christ.
11. We believe the Church is the global community of Christ followers called to be the Body of Christ fulfilling Christ’s mission of loving the world into the Kingdom of God.
12. We believe Baptism and Communion are gifts of the Gospel giving us both the gift of forgiveness and the call to follow Christ.
13. We believe all human life and creation itself is a precious gift from God to be treated with awe and respect.
14. We believe the purpose of the gift of human sexuality is a faithful and loving marriage between a man and a woman.
