FAQ About Peace Lutheran Church
1. What kind of Lutheran Church is Peace? We are affiliated with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ, an association of over 700 congregations in the US and 100 international congregations, that are free in Christ, accountable to one another, and rooted in the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions working together to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations.
2. Who is welcome to share in Holy Communion at Peace? We practice open Communion because we believe Scripture warns us against keeping members of the Body of Christ away from the Lord’s Supper. All baptized believers who seek the real presence of Christ are invited to share in the Sacrament of Communion at Peace. We share Communion not because we are perfectly one but so that we may become perfectly one in Christ.
3. What is Peace’s position on the ordination of women? We believe the Biblical case has been made for the ordination of women in the Church. 1 Timothy suggests that Paul may have personally restricted the authority of women at one time and one place, but elsewhere Paul recognizes the authority of women prophesying in Corinth. There are many Biblical examples of women speaking for God — from Deborah the judge and Hulda the prophetess to Mary Magdalene, the apostle to the apostles, and Priscilla, the seminary teacher of Apollos.
4. What is the style of worship at Peace? We believe that worship should bring the Church together. So we encourage parents to bring their children to worship. We encourage both traditional hymns and newer praise songs. We follow a simplified liturgical pattern because it focuses on God and not on fads or feelings.
